My Christmas Wish List, 2025

Christmas is always a time for expectations, hope, joy, believing, and making a Christmas list.

We are all familiar with the “happy ending” of Christmas movies.

George Bailey, in It’s a Wonderful Life is ready to throw in the towel but is reminded by his Guardian Angel, Clarence, that George really has made a difference in the lives of many.

Karen, in The Miracle on 34th Street closes the film with, “I believe… I believe… I believe. It’s silly, but I believe!”

The Grinch gives back the toys he has stolen in the film, How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

So, with my Guardian Angel hovering, closing my eyes, telling myself I believe, I believe, I believe… that peace can replace war; that violence can be overcome; that lies, deceit, and pure meanness can be swept away; that people can change like the Grinch changed; I share my Christmas wish list with you:

My Christmas Wish List This Year:

  • Gaudy glitter glue that will absorb the divisions among us.
  • A stocking full of courage for our elected officials to stand up to Donald Trump.
  • A super-duper truth meter designed specifically for Donald Trump so when he tells a lie the truth meter will light up from California to the New York highways.
  • A treasure map to find the truth that has been stolen from us.
  • A magic governor ink pen that will sign a law eliminating capital punishment in all 50 states.
  • A peace cloud that will envelop the Ukraine and Russia, Israel and Palestine, the Sudan, and wars will end.
  • A beautiful, shiny, bright green ornament that reads All are Welcome Here hanging on the Statue of Liberty. And a large, blinking neon sign at the border that reads, Welcome! We’re Glad You’re Here
  • Magic glasses for all of us that allows us to see everyone as equal and not notice their skin color.
  • That the Grinch will steal all of the guns in our country and hide them in Grinch land, never to be found.
  • That healthcare coverage will be gift wrapped under the Christmas tree and will be there each year.

Let’s leave the lumps of coal for Santa to deposit while we wear Christmas vests blinking hope and joy, knowing that there are hundreds of Christmas elves including many of you making sure that food pantry shelves are filled, homeless shelters are warm and welcoming, toys have been shared, blankets delivered, Christmas dinners have been prepared for the hungry, and with a few small presents under our trees.

A Blessed Christmas. May we savor the magic and the mystery.
